The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has substantiated the cessation of the appointment of two staff who presented “fake certificates” to get employment at the Central Bank.
Although the Central Bank did not disclose their names, it said in a statement issued on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, that it had not dismissed 90 per cent of new members of staff as being speculated on social media.
“It is not true that 90 per cent of recently recruited staff were found to have presented fake certificates.
The incident being referred to involve two members of staff whose appointments were terminated for providing fake certificates as part of their employment documentation,” the Bank said.
It added that the statement circulating on social media was twisted to misinform the public.
The Bank explained that “as part of due diligence processes during and post recruitment, those found to have presented forged documentation (including academic and professional certificates) are either dropped from the recruitment process or their services terminated if already on-boarded and on probation.”
This, it said, was part of a systematic exercise to deal with unsatisfactory behaviour and ensure that members of staff conformed to rules and regulations.
“The Bank of Ghana wishes to put on record that dismissals are a regular Human Resources management function for staff whose conduct is unsatisfactory or have committed an offence, as stipulated in the Bank’s handbook on Human Resource Policies,” the statement added.
